Milwaukee forced to abandon Fiserv Forum and Miller Park as additional in-person absentee voting sites

City leaders and community partners announced on August 31 that Fiserv Forum and Miller Park would be added as in-person absentee “early” voting centers for the 2020 presidential election. That decision was reversed on October 6, following a wave of legal challenges by Republican political operatives. The City of Milwaukee Election Commission had previously added both locations in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and a desire to meet public demand for early voting by the safest means available. Free Tuition Program: Philanthropist Chris Abele donates another $500,000 to support “MATC Promise”

Philanthropist and former Milwaukee County executive Chris Abele recently donated $500,000 to the Milwaukee Area Technical College Foundation to support Milwaukee Area Technical College’s flagship MATC Promise programs, which provide last-dollar free-tuition scholarships for qualified students. An anonymous alumnus also donated $125,000 from the JPG Fund at the Greater Milwaukee Foundation. The MATC Promise is a public-private partnership with donors filling the gap between what financial aid covers and the cost of tuition. Thea Bowman Institute launches in Milwaukee to promote academic enrichment for Black women

Alverno College launched the Thea Bowman Institute for Excellence and Leadership on September 23, a program designed to serve Black women through academic and leadership programming. The Institute builds on existing Alverno initiatives that bring together students with a like-minded community of advanced leaders and learners. Voice the Vote: Milwaukee nonprofits work to make voting more accessible for people of color

Wisconsin Conservation Voices and their partners held a “Voice the Vote” press conference on National Voter Registration Day to bring awareness to the work they are doing in helping communities of color and young people around Milwaukee register to vote.
