The Westown Association released its musical line-up for the 2016 River Rhythms Season. Jam-packed with great performers like The Rad Trads, New Age Narcissism and King Solomon, the free concert series begins its season on June 8 with Shonn Hinton & Shotgun. Coggs announced on May 3 that the Historic Garfield Redevelopment Phase 1 is one of 28 projects statewide to receive low-income housing tax credits from the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA). Thousands march for immigrant rights on May Day

Over 8,000 people joined the Wisconsin May Day March for Immigrant, Worker, and Student Rights in Milwaukee on May 1. Marchers carried signs and banners urging the U.S. Supreme Court to uphold DAPA and DACA Plus, an expansion of deportation protections to parents and immigrant youth, and demanding dignity for immigrant communities. Victory Garden Blitz to install 500 gardens in 14 days

For the past 7 years, Victory Garden Initiative has installed raised-bed gardens across Milwaukee and beyond. From May 7-21, over 300 volunteers will join Victory Garden Initiative (VGI) for the nation’s largest garden-building event, the Great Milwaukee Victory Garden BLITZ. Over these two weeks, volunteers will build approximately 500 4x8’ raised-bed gardens filled with healthy, organic soil in front yards and backyards all over the city, bringing the total number of gardens installed by VGI to over 3,000.
