New street name acknowledges Summerfest’s history

Polk Street is no more after being renamed East Summerfest Place. Milwaukee World Festival, Inc. announced that the “World’s Largest Music Festival” to formally appear on street maps. Milwaukee World Festival, Inc. officials are excited to announce the name change of East Polk Street, home to Summerfest’s corporate headquarters, to East Summerfest Place. Milwaukee World Festival’s application to change the street name was considered and, pursuant to an Ordinance passed by the City of Milwaukee Common Council, was signed by Mayor Tom Barrett. Prestigious NEA grant awarded to MKE Plays

Funding to be used to incorporate art into program’s playground reconstruction projects. The MKE Plays program has received a prestigious “Our Town” grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, said Alderman Michael J. Murphy, who helped launch MKE Plays last year. The $50,000 NEA grant will be matched by MKE Plays funding for a total project value of $100,000. The Milwaukee County Historical Society honored historian John Gurda with the Gambrinus Prize for his book, Milwaukee: City of Neighborhoods, on Wednesday, May 11, 2016. University President Lovell announces $96 million project for development of two new residence halls on the Marquette campus. President Michael R.
