Soccer event to highlight Milwaukee World Refugee Day

Neighborhood House co-sponsors the Milwaukee World Refugee Day 2016 event to raise awareness of Cultural Diversity and the Syrian Crisis. Milwaukee joins the international humanitarian community in recognizing World Refugee Day, Monday June 20th. The event will take place downtown at Pere Marquette Park, 900 N. Plankinton Avenue, from 4:00 to 6:30pm. Cultural performances and speakers from Syria and Burma will be featured, followed by a championship match between top refugee soccer teams. Milwaukee Stories aims to expand its impact

Starting in July, Milwaukee Stories will launch a monthly podcast featuring community leaders who are working to combat poverty, racism and improve conditions in Milwaukee. Over the last two years, Milwaukee Stories has published over 140 personal stories of individuals in more than 50 neighborhoods across the city, via the website milwaukeestories.org. Common Council ordinance to boost local workforce

A workforce development measure for Milwaukee pushed forward, with the draft of a Common Council ordinance that to significantly reinforce the city’s ability to put unemployed or underemployed people to work. The proposal would also better ensuring economic opportunities for small and locally-owned businesses.
