As a Milwaukee native and photojournalist for the Milwaukee Independent, Karl Herschede attended the inauguration of the 45th President of the United States on January 20. He was also there on following day for the Women’s March on Washington, to document the historic event in images and bring them back to share with our Milwaukee hometown.
At the same time of the DC march, Milwaukee residents and their families joined with 5 million participants worldwide. Exclusive pictorial coverage was published of these local events, when members of the community came together in protest downtown and solidarity in neighborhoods.
In the companion article to this photo essay, Herschede describes his experience on being a part of the Women’s March on Washington. His pictures offer a first-hand view and unique perspective of what words cannot express.
