On June 17, the BoDeans released the song My Hometown, written by lead singer and original band founder Kurt Neumann. The lyrics and melody reflect his nostalgic memory of Milwaukee, a place that was his home and influence on his formative youth.
Like the Milwaukee Flag initiative, that attempted to redesign the city’s icon as a symbol of change, if there was a song of pride and hope for Milwaukee’s future it would be Neumann’s My Hometown.
MPTV is producing a 30th anniversary feature about the BoDeans later this fall, and filmed the August 19 performance at Cedarburg Summer Sounds for the documentary. These two songs, My Hometown and Good Things, were filmed while the Milwaukee Independent photographed the night. They are a live and unedited look at what the more polished television program will feature.
