Byada Meredith colors an artful journey that shares “Hope”

This work was one of three new murals installed at Black Cat Alley, as part of the Mural Festival that took place over the September 22 and 23 weekend. Byada Meredith, a Milwaukee resident, is originally from Thailand where she studied art at King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology in Ladkrabang (Bangkok). Mother Nature mural brings a heart to a new home for urban agriculture

As a former illustrator of children’s books and studio painter, Stacey Williams-Ng fell in love with mural painting. She has gone on to become one of the driving forces behind Milwaukee’s renaissance of street art, most notably the Black Cat Alley project and at various community sites around the city. Her latest project has been working on a special mural on the new Urban Farmhouse of the Victory Garden Initiative (VGI) at 249 East Concordia Avenue in the Harambee neighborhood. Community walk with Mayor Barrett explores murals in Silver City neighborhood

Mayor Tom Barrett hosted the first of his community walk series for the summer of 2018 with Artists Working in Education (AWE) on June 5 along the Silver City neighborhood. The one mile trek from 30th and Scott Street to Arlington Heights Park on 35th and Pierce Street was part of Mayor Barrett’s Walk 100 Miles in 100 Days Challenge. Map: A one day Doors Open route by bus and foot

As a photojournalist, I have taken pictures during Doors Open nearly every year since the event started, showcasing the history and architecture of Milwaukee. Of the 170 locations on the 2017 list, I have visited 100 of them either during the Open Doors weekend or for other news reports. The Milwaukee Independent image library is substantial enough that we could produce a feature with unpublished pictures from past years. Stacey Williams-Ng: Big fish and lots of joy

“One thing I love about mural art is being out in the open and getting to meet passers by. I had one woman come by and introduce herself, and say ‘thank you’ for investing in my community, and gave me a big hug. And that really meant a lot to me.
