Downtown Milwaukee officially welcomed one of its largest and most ambitious mural projects, with a ribbon cutting ceremony on July 19, along the west wall of Dunkin’ at 622 W. Wisconsin Avenue. Titled “Westown In Bloom,” the 80’ wide by 50’ high mural was painted by local artist Emma Daisy Gertel, and commissioned by the Milwaukee Downtown BID #21 and the Downtown Placemaking Task Force. The popular Bus Shelter Art Project from the Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS) kicked off its second season recently, coinciding with a secret mural painted by the internationally acclaimed street artist, MTO. Eight new pieces of artwork on bus shelters are in the process of being installed around Milwaukee. The Brady Area Foundation for Arts and Education (BAFAE), represented by the Brady Street Business Improvement District (BID #11), recently commissioned a new mural in the spirit of the city’s growing public art culture. Located under the iconic Holton Street Bridge across from the Swing Park, artist Stacey Williams-Ng was hired to produce a mural that would brighten the underpass. Milwaukee Downtown BID #21 and the Downtown Placemaking Task Force have commissioned local artist Emma Daisy Gertel for the new Westown mural at the northeast corner of James Lovell Street and Wisconsin Avenue.
