From Republican’t to Republikkkan: Patriot Party of Wisconsin created over split by Trump voters

Former President Donald Trump may have stepped back for now from the idea of creating a new political party, but that has not stopped diehard Trump fans disillusioned with the Republican Party from creating Patriot Parties of their own all across the country. Onetime Trump voters in Wisconsin, Florida, Georgia, Colorado, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio and other states have all made attempts at forming their own iterations of a Patriot Party in recent weeks. Some are affiliated with the American Patriot Party of the United States, which does not list a Wisconsin affiliate, while the fledgling Wisconsin party is...

Legislative effort seeks to end no-knock search warrants in Wisconsin after almost a quarter century

State Representative LaKeshia Myers recently introduced a new bill to prevent the use of no-knock search warrants by Wisconsin law enforcement. The bill was named “Breonna’s Law” after Louisville, Kentucky EMT Breonna Taylor, the 26-year-old who was killed during such a raid in March 2020. “It is most appropriate for us to begin Black History Month 2021 by introducing ‘Breonna’s Law,’” Myers said in a statement. “Breonna Taylor’s life was taken while she was in the comfort of her own home, through the use of a no-knock warrant. While Taylor was not the subject of the warrant, her life...

In Wisconsin and across the country, 538 members of the Electoral College met on December 14 to cast their votes for president — officially awarding President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris their 306 earned electoral college votes. But many of those electors, in battleground states such as Wisconsin, met under increased security and amid unprecedented chaos and confusion after efforts from President Donald Trump and his Republican allies to sow doubt on the election results. The Electoral College vote marked the end of Trump’s efforts to use the courts to overturn the election, with the Wisconsin Supreme...

Wisconsin Republicans rebuked for using a racist Jim Crow strategy for mass disenfranchisement of voters

Republicans — including Wisconsin Elections Commission member Dean Knudson, a former Republican legislator — continue to try and cast doubts on the Wisconsin presidential election results even after the Trump campaign’s recount added to Joe Biden’s winning margin. As expected, President Donald Trump filed a lawsuit disputing the election results on Tuesday morning with the Wisconsin Supreme Court, although state law dictates that such a suit be filed first in circuit court. The lawsuit claims that absentee votes cast in-person, during Wisconsin’s early voting window, are illegal, along with other categories of absentee ballots, including those cast in envelopes...
