Gigantic mural honoring Milwaukee Bucks Giannis Antetokounmpo unveiled at community celebration

Milwaukee Downtown BID #21 revealed the finished building-sized mural on May 12 by artist Mauricio Ramirez, created as a tribute to the legendary player Giannis Antetokounmpo for his commitment to the city as a member of the Milwaukee Bucks basketball team. Port Milwaukee expects more than 10,000 cruise ship passengers to visit the city for 2022 summer season

Mayor Cavalier Johnson announced that the Viking Octantis will be the first cruise ship to visit Port Milwaukee as part of the 2022 season. This Seawaymax vessel is scheduled to dock in Milwaukee’s Harbor on May 6. The Viking Octantis’ arrival in Milwaukee will begin a summer season where 33 port calls by various cruise ships are planned, bringing more than 10,000 passengers to the city. The Dontre Hamilton Memorial Bench was unveiled to the public on “Dontre Day,” the annual event that honors him, at Red Arrow Park where it was installed at the site of his death. Alderman José G. Pérez unanimously chosen as Milwaukee’s first Hispanic Common Council President

Members of the Milwaukee Common Council voted unanimously on April 19 for electing Alderman José G. Pérez of the 12th District to serve as their next leader, making him the first Hispanic Common Council President in the city’s history. As the only council member to be nominated, Pérez will serve until April 2024. He finishes the term of Cavalier Johnson, who served as President from 2020 to 2022. After being sworn in on April 18, newly-elected County Supervisor Peter Burgelis introduced his first piece of legislation. Wisconsin Army Guard unit returns from Eastern Europe after invasion of Ukraine extended deployment

The Wisconsin Army National Guard’s 107th Maintenance Company returned home to Volk Field on April 16.
