Milwaukee County War Memorial Center nears funding goal to install new “Gallery of Honor” exhibit

The Milwaukee County War Memorial Center has entered the public phase of a $500,000 campaign to build a world-class exhibit to honor the 64 Wisconsin residents who received the highest and most prestigious military decoration in the United States, the Congressional Medal of Honor. For 65 years, the War Memorial Center’s mission has been to “Honor the Dead by Serving the Living.” When its doors opened in 1957, there were a lot of families directly associated with causalities from World War II and Korea. Milwaukee’s interfaith community installs new multi-language monument as a proclamation for peace

A new interfaith peace pole was dedicated on June 20 at the grounds of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, by leaders of many faiths who proclaimed their united dedication to work for peace in the community. The public event was hosted by the Interfaith Conference of Greater Milwaukee and the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. Educational mobile app with walking tours about Milwaukee’s LGBTQ history to debut at PrideFest

While “Don’t Say Gay” legislation continues to circulate in 16 states, a group of local activists, educators and historians have taken action to connect Wisconsin with its diverse LGBTQ heritage. Ukrainian designer proposes refugee memorial at site of iconic Irpin bridge destroyed to stop Russian attack

One of the most iconic images from the start of Putin’s invasion of Ukraine shows refugees huddled under a destroyed bridge next the Irpin River, at the edge of Milwaukee’s sister city Irpin. A Ukrainian designer recently presented plans to preserve the site as a memorial complex. Multiple shootings after Milwaukee Bucks playoff game forces city to issue downtown curfew for youth

Downtown Milwaukee will be under a limited curfew for the rest of the weekend and a massive public watch party scheduled for May 15 has been cancelled, after 21 people were injured in three separate shootings near the Deer District where thousands had gathered for the Bucks NBA playoff game.
