Milwaukee faces a troubling trend with hit-and-run crashes and bike safety

According to the Legislative Reference Bureau, hit-and-run crashes made up 24% of all crashes in Milwaukee in 2013, that percentage jumped to 29% as of 2017. For hit-and-run drivers each offense carries severe penalties to deter such deviant behavior in the state of Wisconsin. New state law weakens tenant rights and government oversight of rental properties

A bill backed by Wisconsin landlords that imposes restrictions on rental inspections conducted by local governments was signed into law recently by Governor Scott Walker. Assembly Bill 773 was approved by the GOP-controlled legislature along party lines with Republicans favoring it and Democrats opposing it 18-14 in the Senate and 58-34 in the Assembly. Wisconsin Vietnam War Veterans among thousands honored at memorial for helicopter pilots

“In honored memory of the helicopter pilots and crewmembers who gave the full measure of devotion to their nation in the Vietnam War (1961-1975).” The Vietnam conflict was a “helicopter war” and according the group that lobbied for the monument, the Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association, nearly 5,000 pilots and crewmembers were killed during the two decades of fighting. Ruling by Wisconsin appeals court reinstates lawsuit against online gun dealer

An appeals court in Wisconsin ruled on April 19 that a firearms trading website can be held liable for negligence by facilitating the purchase of a gun that was subsequently used in a fatal shooting. Public health alert issued as a result of synthetic marijuana hospitalizations

The City of Milwaukee Health Department (MHD) released a warning to the public that medical cases involving synthetic marijuana have been confirmed in Milwaukee. Since April 19, 2018, two confirmed cases and one probable case of the illness have been identified in City residents. Of the three cases, two have required hospitalization. Synthetic marijuana compounds, sometimes called K2 or Spice, are actually chemically different from marijuana, and are more dangerous than pot, according to studies.
