Changing of the Guard: Dan Buttery becomes 4th leader of War Memorial Center

The War Memorial Center (WMC) announced on September 24 that it will have a new leader in the role of President and CEO for only the fourth time in its 62-year history. Dan Buttery will step into the new role with the War Memorial Center effective January 2, 2020. Buttery will take over for the long tenured current President Dave Drent, who will be retiring after 48 years of service to the War Memorial Center. Emanuel “E-Man” Monge: Super hero teen battling cancer gets special recognition at City Hall

A celebration in honor of Milwaukee teen Emanuel “E-Man” Monge, for an enduring resiliency during his battle with childhood cancer, was held on September 5 in the Vel R. Phillips Ante Chamber of City Hall. Seen as a “superhero” to many in the community, the 15-year-old was recognized during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month for his years of fighting to be cured of his cancer. Emanuel was diagnosed with a rare form of childhood cancer in September 2016 at the age of 12. Crowds brave inclement weather on first day of ticket sales for Broadway’s Hamilton at Marcus Center

Several hundred fans of the Broadway hit musical “Hamilton” got a few hours jump ahead of online ticket sales by standing in line at the Marcus Performing Arts Center on September 10. Undaunted by heavy rain showers, more than 500 people showed up prior to the 8:00 a.m. start for ticket sales, with a steady stream of arrivals throughout the morning.
