The Mexican Consulate in Milwaukee hosted its first Las Posadas event on December 14, to welcome the public and usher in the cultural holiday tradition celebrated in Mexico from December 16 to 24. Consulado de México en Milwaukee has provided much needed services for the Wisconsin region since it opened in August 2016, such as legal advice, passports, consular IDs, and voter registration cards. Students across Milwaukee area walkout of class to demand safer schools and mental health resources

Hundreds of students from around the metro Milwaukee area organized a school walkout on December 13 to bring public attention to their daily fears, concern for safety, and need for mental health resources, following a rash of gun related incidents in classrooms across Wisconsin. The Milwaukee County Historical Society (MCHS) has a small collection of letters and telegrams from a young Milwaukee soldier who fought in the infantry during the Korean War. The documents provide some insight into forgotten local connections with larger conflicts in the world. St. Benedict the Moor Parish hosted Mayor Tom Barrett and members of the Continuum of Care on December 2, to announce new developments in caring for the city’s homeless population during the winter by opening overnight and day warming rooms throughout Milwaukee. Waukesha South student shot in classroom after pointing handgun at School Resource Officer

Waukesha South High School was on lockdown for several hours on Monday, December 2 after an armed male student refused to disarm and pointed his handgun at an officer. Waukesha Police Chief Russell Jack told the news media at a noon press conference that a 17-year-old male student had been reported at 10:07 a.m. to be in possession of a handgun that he brought to school.
