Family, friends, faith leaders, activists, and members of the community gathered on the seventh anniversary of his fatal shooting to remember the tragedy that affected the social fabric of Milwaukee. Every year on April 30, known as “Dontre Day” since 2018, the community comes together for a vigil in Red Arrow Park.

The Milwaukee County War Memorial Center recognized National Vietnam War Veterans Day on March 29. Not only does it commemorate the sacrifices of Vietnam veterans, but also their families. It is part of a national effort to recognize the men and women who were denied a proper welcome upon returning home more than 40 years ago.

Milwaukee residents gathered with community and religious leaders outside City Hall on March 18 to mourn the women killed during the mass shootings at several Atlanta-area spas, and demand an end to violence and hatred against Asian Americans. The “Standing Up Against Anti-Asian Violence” vigil was organized by the AAPI Coalition of Wisconsin.
