Ceremony honoring 30th anniversary commemoration of Vietnam Memorial held at Milwaukee’s Veterans Park

Milwaukee County leaders, Vietnam veterans and their families, and members of the public gathered at Veterans Park along Lake Michigan on October 23 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Southeast Wisconsin Vietnam Veterans Memorial’s dedication. The ceremony was organized by Wisconsin Vietnam Veterans (WVV) Chapter One, who was also the driving force in the construction of the memorial 30 years ago. The site has since become a sacred focal point in Veterans Park. The tribute include a flyover by two F-16’s from Truax Rield in Madison, and a static display of a UH 60 Blackhawk helicopter. A new immersive exhibition featuring photographic prints by Jan Serr opened on October 15 at The Warehouse, bringing a stunning collection of images to Milwaukee that documented China during its era of modernization. The sixty-four photographic works in “CHINA: Then & Now – Jan Serr” focus on Asia’s ancient Middle Kingdom. Bruce J. Kremer: Rare 1954 color photos from soldier taken in post-War Korea preserved in Milwaukee

As a resident of Milwaukee, the daughter of Bruce J. Kremer wanted to see her father’s wartime photographs preserved. That led her to the Milwaukee County Historical Society, and the attention of Assistant Archivist Steve Schaffer. Schaffer received a call from a donor, asking if MCHS would be interested in a collection of slides taken at the end of the Korean War. Kremer was not a local resident, but his daughter lived in Milwaukee.
