Wisconsin overcame bids from Corpus Christi, TX, Los Angeles, CA, and San Juan, Puerto Rico to bring the national event to Milwaukee.
The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), our nation’s oldest and largest Hispanic membership based organization, voted on Saturday, July 16 to bring their 2019 National Convention to Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Darryl Morin, Past National Vice President and LULAC Council #340 Bid Committee Chair stated “We are pleased LULAC Delegates from across the country voted to bring this sought after convention to Milwaukee, Wisconsin especially when competing against such strong proposals. It was for Milwaukee’s world-class facilities and the tremendous support we received from local corporations, educational and cultural institutions and Visit Milwaukee that put us over the top.”
During the campaign, the bid committee shot a series of commercials with the Milwaukee Bucks, Discovery World, Milwaukee Art Museum, Milwaukee Area Technical College, various elected officials and former Milwaukee Brewer and Major League Baseball All-Star Carlos Gomez and promoted them heavily on social media.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for the state of Wisconsin. This convention will not only pump millions of dollars into our state’s economy, but more importantly, will serve to unite and lift up all Wisconsin communities. We expect 17,000-20,000 to walk through the doors of the Wisconsin Center over the five days of our convention. They will come for our capacity building and issue advocacy workshops, for program and grant announcements, for our career, college and health fairs, and of course to see and hear from our world class lineup of speakers and entertainers”, stated LULAC of Wisconsin State Director Dr. Arturo Martinez.
LULAC previously held its national convention in Milwaukee in 2006. Speakers at LULAC’s 2016 National Convention in Washington, D.C. included Presumptive Democratic Presidential Nominee Sec. Hillary Rodham Clinton, Senator Bernie Sanders, Attorney General Loretta Lynch, Labor Secretary Tom Perez, Secretary Julian Castro and others.
